After doing some research I have found out the last time we had this many teams playing in grand finals at once was back in 1995 when we had 11 teams in, I am told Aspley had an influx of highly regarded junior coaches and players from other clubs swamp in to play at the club that year.
This year we were very fortunate and proud to say we have, and I quote the president Jim Spletter, 10 teams of home grown Aspley players which makes this year a whole lot more special.
The 10 teams who were successful are as follows:
U11 Div 2 vs St Joey’s – Coached by Alex Hitchens – Lost 24 -18
U12 Prems vs Redcliffe – Coached by Grant Young – Lost 24 - 10
U12 Div 2 vs Redcliffe – Coached by Leon Savelio – Lost 24 – 10 in Extra time
U12 Div 3 vs Redcliffe – Coached by Lewis Pearce – Won 18 - 14 in Extra time
U13 Prems vs Redcliffe – Coached by Val Pritchard – Won 34 - 18
U13 Div 3 vs PCHS – Coached by Paul Cross – Lost 30 -12
U14 Prems vs Logan brothers – Coached by Stu Wilson – Lost 14 - 4
U14 Div 1 vs Redcliffe – Coached by Greg Oliphant – Lost 31 - 30 in Golden point
U15 Prems vs Souths – Coached by Kingi Tamati – Lost 18 - 8
U18 Div 2 vs Norths – Coached by Glenn Collin – Lost 38 - 34 in Golden point
I would like to congratulate all teams from U7’s to Opens for the way they have conducted themselves on and off the field this year. Season 2011 has been a very successful one for the club for so many reasons other than our success on the field.
